About Our Materials

Each bag we create contains just a few ingredients. We mainly use Jute, Linen and Leather. In some cases a zipper and metal fittings.

Leather

General benefits:

  • Leather is exceptionally strong and can withstand wear and tear.

  • Leather is naturally breathable, providing comfort in different climates.

Quality:

We only use cow full-grain leather in our products. It is the highest quality among leathers on earth because it has a natural scar side. There, the fibre structure is much denser. The leather is therefore more tear-resistant and more durable.

Sustainability:

99% of the leathers are made from livestock, (that is cattle, sheep, goats and pigs) and they are a by-product of the meat industry.

Without exception, across the world farmers do not raise livestock for their hides and skins. The hides and skins that are used to make leather represent, on average less than 4% of the overall value. Therefore it does not make sense to raise livestock for this low level of income.

We only use vegetable tanned leather in our production so that the leather is not only eco friendly because it is up-cycled waste but also sustainably processed.

Jute

Our main material is crocheted from jute yarn which is made from a plant that is grown and processed in warm countries.

General benefits:

  • It is a very strong fibre and despite the rustic look it can become very smooth.

  • The material remains clean easily

  • It's anti-bacterial

  • It's Anti-static

Quality:

Jute is a very durable fibre that stands the test of time if treated well.

Sustainability:

Jute generally is eco friendly because:

  • The plant needs very little water during period of growth

  • It needs very low to no fertiliser

  • It cleans the air at a fascinating rate (one hectare absorbs 15 tons of co2 and releases 11 tons of oxygen per season)

  • It improves the soil quality for later agricultural uses

  • It’s Easily recyclable

Our Jute specifically is eco friendly because the jute is processed 100% naturally (Some companies use mineral oil) therefore the material is bio degradable and entirely sustainable in its production.

Linen

Linen is made from flax, a plant that prefers full sun and grows to a height of 100cm.

General benefits:

The material is very moisture-wicking, It can absorb moisture and quickly release it, keeping your things  dry and cool.

Quality:

Linen has been used since Stone Age. It is known for its strength and durability.

Sustainability:

  • Flax is a natural and eco friendly fibre.

  • Our linen is bio degradable

  • Linen cultivation typically requires fewer pesticides and water compared to e.g. cotton.
